Round 25 – Sea Eagles vs Panthers
Overview
The third top eight clash this weekend that will have a massive say in who gets a home semi and who has to battle their way to a grand final.
Manly at home this season seem to be unstoppable. Brett Stewart is one try away from equaling the Beaver’s try-scoring record at Brooky. With 77 in 83 games there, it is almost a certainty that it will happen today.
Penrith have been the surprise pack of the season. Everyone keeps expecting them to fall out of touch, but that just keep on keeping on. Lost today and they will keep their top four spot, but they may start to lose belief after going down to the Storm last week.
Players to watch
Brett Stewart – As was said, he is one try away from equaling Beaver Menzies’ record at Brookvale. One thing will be on Stewart’s mind, get one, then two, then three. Thrash the Beaver. Everyone loves thrashing the Beaver.
Jamie Soward – Touted as the buy of the year by some, Sooky Soward needs to step up and take control of this game. He has Origin experience, although not very good experience, and he has a premiership ring. Combine those, and not only does an older slower version of Captain Planet emerge, but Sowy will have the younger players in the team looking to him for guidance.
Result and score prediction
Manly will be far too strong for the Penrith team at home. With heavy rain forecast and Brooky already a heavy track. The ones who have the ability to take flight will win with ease. Manly by 12.
Most likely to running the waters
Glen Stewart has played his last game for Manly, but he wont want to miss out on the on-field action. Give him a towel, a hat and a sweet kit bag and let him run instructions and water to his mates for one last hurrah.
Most likely to snap the winner
If the game somehow does come down to a golden point finish, or close enough to it, expect to see Matty Moylan put his hand up first for a crack at the sticks. With a reasonable success rate, who would bet against him?
