Overview

Israel and Palestine. Coke and Pepsi. Seinfeld and Newman. All classic rivalries but the NRL’s greatest would have to be South Sydney and Manly, the working class heroes and the rich kids from the north. Countless litres of blood have been spilled, countless teeth been lost and countless legends have been created in the ancient history of this fixture, which may be a preview of the Grand Final in a few weeks time. The Rabbitohs come in off a loss to the Roosters last week, which would’ve hurt. However, it’s called the ‘minor’ premiership for a reason and they’ve got their sights set on the big one. Manly also had a loss to the Cowboys and will be highly concerned at their form slump leading into the business end.

Manly will be stung by the loss of Jamie Buhrer and Matt Ballin, both former Origin reps out with injury. Meanwhile tattoo enthusiast Adam Reynolds returns at half for Souths.

Players to watch

Peta Hiku – The man the Warriors didn’t want has been racking up tries like it’s going out of fashion this season. However, four pointers are still very much in fashion out on the wing for Manly so expect Hiku to cross a couple more times.

Dylan Walker – The Rabbitohs centre has been a powerhouse this season and expect him to match anything Hiku does.

Result and score prediction

There will be blood. Oh yeah, and a game of league, which will be low-scoring. Goal kicking will be crucial, so Reynolds and Jamie Lyon may be the difference. However, I think this is South’s year and this will be the first step on the way to a premiership. Souths by 2.

Most likely to get in a fight

Everyone. Probably a few times. However, both should cool their tempers as it would be foolish to get put on report at this stage of the season.

Most likely to get head butted in the balls by their coach

Manly players if they lose, because that’s the most effective way Geoff Toovey can hurt them.
