NNRL Top 10 Personalities
When it comes to characters and personalities, the NRL has a lot of them. They range from self-proclaimed comedians, to general GC’s. They would prefer to be delivering a hilarious joke, but at the same time are not afraid of being the arse end of it either. More suited to a lifestyle in the circus, the men on this list have carved out (or are carving out) successful careers as footy players instead.
10. George Rose
The big fella is well-known for being just that, rather large. He doesn’t shy away from the fact that he is larger than both halves in any team he is playing for and quite often the opposing teams halves too. Gorgeous George isn’t afraid to flaunt what he has got either. A big gut, and a big personality.
9. Johnathan Thurston
As well as being the best halfback in the game, Thurston also has the best laugh in the game. Unidentified studies have proven that JT’s laugh is as close to a Kookaburra’s mating call as you can get. Unless of course you dress yourself as a Kookaburra, situate yourself on the local corner and wait for the highest paying mate to arrive. Keeping with that theme – JT also has a sweet pair of wings on his back, homage to his laugh maybe?
8. David Williams
It will be a wee while before we hear again from the Wolfman. He is currently serving time in the clink for illegal gambling on NRL fixtures. By time in the clink, we of course mean a ban for the rest of the season. Williams as embraced the Wolfman tag so much so that he now lives outside in a hut constructed from fallen pine trees. A year or two back it came to light that he was in fact on the path to turning into a full-blown wolf when he revealed his current diet of rear meat and water. The Wolfman also featured in NNRL Top 10 Hair Dos
7. James Maloney
Maloney shot to fame while playing perfect partners on the Footy Show. A regarded funny-man with his time at the Warriors his success was only about to get much bigger. When asked about his most embarrassing moment Maloney mentioned he was caught BBQ’ing alone, or rather ‘Slappin the bass’. Since then, Maloney has been a regular on TV and doesn’t shy away from embarrassing opportunities.
6. The Fifita Brothers
The modern-day Pen & Teller, except they both talk, a lot. If you are a Footy Show regular you would have seen the Fifta brothers laughing and cackling away together on the Player Probe segment all season. Feeding off each other they are like hilarious immature three-year olds.
All their dreams came true last week when they were guest hosts on the Footy Show. Too funny to watch.
5. Wendell Sailor
Sailor has had his issues in the past and you either love him or hate him. A man who truly loves himself, Sailor is not afraid to give himself a wrap. Even if it is unjustified. During his playing career he was animated and outrageous. His running on-field battle with Mad Dog MacDougall was brilliant to watch.
4. Matty Johns
When Matty Johns was first on television he brought us Reg Ragen and Trent the American flight steward. ‘Bring Back The Biff’ was and still is a line used most weeks, especially now more than ever. Matty has moved away from the Footy Show and now has is own TV programme on Fox and is a DJ on Triple M radio. One of the funniest men in the game and probably the original Beau Ryan.
3. Konrad Hurrell
Konrad Hurrell is a true comedian and loves the camera. All you need to do is jump on his instagram profile for some of the funniest viewing you will ever watch. His approach to the word Zucchini is comedy gold. A hard-hitting goliath on field, Hurrell more resembles cute and cuddly teddy bear off it.
2. Beau Ryan
Many may argue this, and Beau should be in the number one spot. Sure a couple of years ago we would have agreed. While he is still brilliant and now carving a career out of his brilliantness, we think there is such a thing as too much Beau. His best segments are still Beau Knows, but surely, DJ Yallah needs to make a comeback!
1. Willie Mason
Big Willie has jumped from top five contender to the number one spot on the back of his brilliant spray last weekend. Mic’d up for the Sterlo show, Mason hurled abuse at his trainer, coach and the opposition. Willie has gone from being one of the most hated players in the NRL when he first burst on to the scene to one of the most loved. His likeability is sure to spike even higher after this latest stunt!
