As the 2014 season winds down to a close and teams start falling out of the competition, the biggest day of the year awaits them. Mad Monday.

While they might not admit it, this is the day everyone in the NRL plays for. Sure Origin, representing your country and playing in a Grand Final are goals, but when it comes to hitting the peak of your powers you know you have made it when you can get through Mad Monday without being found face down in a gutter outside your apartment or house by the local paparazzi.

Here is a wee look at the top 10 NRL Mad Monday costumes we have come across over the last few years.

10. Shaun Johnson – Princess

Not the most creative costume in the world, but Shaun took ownership of it. Given his name is/was princess amongst his teammates it was probably an ideal choice for his Mad Monday festivities, and he’s a little bit cute too.

9. Jeff Robson – Mr Incredible

The former Eel and now Sharks halfback looks a little bit out-of-place as a super hero, especially considering he is a journeyman at best! So many questions need to be asked here. Who allowed Robson to think he qualified as a Mr Incredible impersonator? Why does it look like Robson can squat a small bus? Who is Jeff Robson?

8. Luke Patten – McDonalds Fries

Wind back the clock a few years, now do you remember a bloke called the general? Well, generally speaking, in this photo Patten likes well and truly baked, or steamed, which ever goes better with the theme of being a McDonald’s favourite.

7. Israel Folau – Serena Williams

Grazing the open pasture of NRL Mad Monday photos, we almost completely missed this one. It doesn’t come any closer than Israel Folau dressing up as the biggest toughest women’s tennis star in the world. Despite Izzy’s hulking frame, we still think Williams has got him covered when it comes to bench press.

6. Nathan Hindmarsh – Rockstar

If you know your footy, you will know Nathan Hindmarsh is an old school player who likes to have a beer. When Mad Monday comes around, Hindmarsh is as happy as a pig in shit. Despite not ever winning a Grand Final, he certainly comes close to winning Mad Monday in this tight little number.

5. Aiden Tolman – Mr T

What do you get when you mate a small softly spoken albino and a large  angry black man? You get Aiden Tolman dressed as Mr T for Mad Monday. Looking at the photo you would think he has gone half-assed and not painted his whole body. But really, he hasn’t painted anything, that is just the SPF150+ that his doctor prescribes to fight off the sun. Tolman has just put on a mask and some army clothing. Brilliant.

4. Cooper Cronk – Hulk Hogan

Cooper Cronk is one of the last people you would ever expect to see participating in childish Mad Monday games. The ultimate professional who never puts a foot wrong during the season was caught dressed as Hulk Hogan. While being a clean skin makes the dress up all the more real, that is about as close as the Hulk as Cronk gets. We would love to see a handle-bar moustache for the beginning of next season please.

3. Joel Monaghan – Super Animal Man?

Monaghan claims the number three spot on Mad Monday reputation alone. While this is not Monaghan’s finest appearance on a Mad Monday, it is right up there with the whole dog licking his balls incident. Well, not really. We are not entirely sure what Joel is dressed as here, but him and David Shillington certainly do it justice, and they look like they are having a lot of fun.

2. Joe Picker – Usain Bolt

For a strawberry blonde haired back rower who plays for Canberra (and now the Rabbitohs) to have the guts to go interracial is something we must consider special. Pickers ability to look remarkably like the fastest man in the world Usain Bolt must be marvelled at and begs the question, how would Bolt go portraying Picker on an

1. Nate Myles – Pimp

When it comes to NNRL you all know the Forehead holds a special place in our hearts. When we came across this amazing picture of Nate dressed as a pimp back in 2009 we couldn’t not give him the number one spot. In a year where he made poo poo in a hallway, Myles clearly put that behind him and controlled the Mad Monday celebrations like a true P.I.M.P
