Elgey flips Sea Eagles the bird
Titans boom rookie halfback Kane Elgey has declined a massive $300k per season offer from Manly to stay on the Gold Coast.
Elgey has signed on for a further two years in Robina and all going well, will form a potential super-star halves pairing with the man the Sea Eagles wanted him to replace. Daly Cherry-Evans.
Elgey said the lure of playing under Andrew Johns’ tutelage at Manly was a huge drawcard, however the lure of staying on the sunset strip with his family and friends was even bigger. He also shared his excitement of playing under Neil Henry and repaying the faith of giving him his NRL start, as well as playing beside the current Manly number 7.
“I’m excited to hopefully be able to play with Daly Cherry-Evans too.”
What hasn’t been reveled and could well be hair-say at the same time is the real reason Elgey knocked back the massive deal from the Manly team. Growing up with the surname Elgey hasn’t been the easiest as many people tend to spell the name incorrectly and refer to it as the lake weed that grows in polluted lakes across the world.
Rumour has it, Kane went into the office to sign the contract with Manly, saw his name was incorrectly spelt (Algae) and he flipped out. Apparently he threw a chair across the room, pulled a Manly official the finger, stormed out and called the Titans immediately. Big ups to the young man for wanting perfection, he will go close to finding it every week outside Daly Cherry-Evans.
